Vat Si Saket: The main temple in Vat Si Saket was built in the Siamese style of Buddhist architecture rather than the Lao style, which probably saved it from destruction by the invading Siamese army, making it the oldest surviving temple in Vientiane.
The site was used for ceremonies where Lao Royalty were forced to swear oaths of loyalty to the conquering Siamese. Later, the French used the site for the same purposes.
Vat Si Saket is well known for the wall forming the cloister around the temple, which contains niches housing thousands of Buddha statues. The entire temple complex is said to house some 6,000 statues of Buddha.
