Vat Xaiyaphoum: Believed to have originally been built around 1548 during the reign of King Saysethatirath, Vat Xaiyaphoum is Savannakhet's oldest temple and also its largest, with more than 100 monks and novices in residence at its 5 dormitories. All the structures standing today have been built since the early 20th century, but still maintain the Savannakhet style architecture of the original buildings.

The temple is the main venue in Savannakhet for celebrating Pbi Mai Lao and the Boat Racing Festival, along with other Buddhist celebrations. One of the racing boats is even housed here.
