Bungva

Bungva: Bungva, translated as Va Lake but commonly referred to as Bungva Lake, sits 8.5 kilometers (5.3 miles) to the east of Savannakhet and is the largest lake in the area. It is approximately 1 kilometer (.6 miles) at its widest and covers around 100 hectares (250 acres). In 1976 an embankment was constructed around a large portion of this natural lake to increase its capacity. Improvements to this embankment were made in 2006.

Restaurant on Bungva

Lake Activities: Several restaurants on the edge of the lake have constructed floating huts for semi-private dining. The lake is also used as a water source for consumption and irrigation, and for fishing. The area on the opposite side of the embankment is ideal for the growth of reeds, which are harvested during the rainy season and woven into reed mats. The lake also serves as an ideal site for festivals, including a Boat Racing Festival and a Rocket Festival.
