City Hall
Ho Chi Minh Statue

City Hall: Although there are no tours of City Hall, I did pass by it on my way to the Museum of Vietnamese History. The style of the building is similar to that of Norodom Palace before it was destroyed. In a small park in front of City Hall is a statue of Ho Chi Minh with a small girl.

Museum of Vietnamese History

Museum of Vietnamese History: The Museum of Vietnamese History was located a little further from our hotel than any of the sites I visited the day before, but I had all day so I decided to walk through the city rather than take public transportation. Of course, I was offered many rides during my trek by men with motorbikes. It seems anybody with a motorbike can be hired to drive you around the city.

The museum itself was interesting, showing artifacts from pre-history through Vietnam's major dynasties to some current day artifacts, focusing on ethnic minorities. There were displays chronicling Vietnam's rule by the Chinese, as well as its expansion southward through parts of Champa (southern Laos) and Cambodia. There was also displays of cannons and a mummy of a 19th century socialite which seemed a bit out of place, but were interesting in their own right nonetheless.

I didn't have much else planned for the remainder of the day, not being interested in visiting the zoo, which is located right next to the museum, so I walked around the city a short while before heading back to the hotel to await Peep's return from the expo.

Dinner: On my way to the museum, I passed a Pizza Hut so we decided to have dinner there. On our way to dinner, we stopped at a travel agency and I signed up for a tour of the Cu Chi caves the next day.
