Map of Cambodia

About the Trip: Peep was called to meet her boss in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, so I decided to join her while she took an extra day there to tour the city.

Getting There: We left from Savannakhet Airport aboard a Lao Airlines flight to Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Bangkok, where, after a short layover, we boarded a Bangkok Airlines flight to Phnom Penh. Both flights lasted about an hour and a half. After deplaning, I joined the throng of people getting their visa on arrival, which Peep did not need since both Laos and Cambodia are part of ASEAN. It was then through immigration, past baggage claim since we only had carry-on luggage, past customs and out to meet the driver Peep's boss sent to pick us up. After arriving at and checking into our hotel, we asked the desk clerk for a place serving dinner with live, traditional entertainment. He directed us to a restaurant about three kilometers (two miles) away.

Sisowath Quay: Instead of hiring a tuk-tuk, we decided to make our way to the Titanic Restaurant on foot, walking along Sisowath Quay, a stretch of road lined with restaurants on one side and the Tonle Sap River on the other. Once seated, we each ordered traditional Khmer dishes and enjoyed the traditional music and dancing on the nearby stage.

Night Attractions: Since many of the sites we would see later in the trip were located nearby, we decided to get some night pictures of these locations, among them Wat Phnom, Yeay Penh Statue, Independence Monument and the Statue of King Father Norodom Sihanouk. Then it was back to the hotel, completing our day.
