Day Off: Saturday was a day off from racing, and I used it almost entirely for rest. We did have to go to register for Sunday's triathlon, but there was nothing else on our schedule. We spent most of the day bumming around the hotel room, watching movies on television, and otherwise relaxing. Peep also massaged my legs. As I expected, my calves were still sore, but, to my surprise, my quadriceps and hamstrings were also quite sore. I had held back some in the races up to this point, saving myself for the triathlon ahead. I am sure this soreness was due to the sheer volume of running on Friday, 12.4 miles total. My longest run in training had only been 7 miles.

Quake Damage: We also got a good look at damage sustained by the hotel during the earthquake. There were many hairline fractures in the mortar on the walls. Small cracks in the mortar are common in all buildings constructed in this manner, even those that do not experience earthquakes. The most visible of these was on the exterior of the hotel. Additionally, one of the polished stone facade pieces by the elevator had fallen off and shattered on the floor. They were already replacing it. Several of the other pieces must have also come loose, because they removed and then reattached them to the wall.
