Sentosa Island: Peep was free for the entirety of the second day, so we decided to head out to Sentosa Island, a new destination for us. We invited Paap to join us, but he opted to sleep in instead, so it was just the two of us. We took the subway to the stop nearest the island and then walked the rest of the way, over the bridge connecting it to Singapore Island. We purchased a combination ticket that let us into three of a selected set of eleven premium attractions on the island and also covered the island admission fee.
Underwater World Singapore: Our first destination on the island was at Underwater World Singapore, which we reached by riding the free island shuttle. The lady at the ticket booth had informed us of the first show being performed there, and we made it just in time for the start. After watching the fifteen-minute long "Meet the Dolphins and Fur Seals Show", featuring pink dolphins, we explored the entirety of the aquarium. We stopped to feed the rays and later gazed at the marine life from within a tunnel at the bottom of a large tank. Peep discovered her love of seadragons here. Back outside the front gate, we stopped to see the "tur-toises", as Peep so happily named them, on display there.
S.E.A Aquarium: After taking the bus back to Resorts World at Sentosa, we stopped for lunch at Hard Rock Cafe before proceeding to the S.E.A. Aquarium, the largest aquarium in the world, located nearby. We started off in the Maritime Experiential Museum, which displayed the ancient maritime culture of regions throughout Asia. We then entered Typhoon Theater, where we joined an ill-fated voyage to the bottom of the ocean. As the ship sunk on screen, the entire theater lowered a level and deposited us below the waves, where we encountered a shipwreck.
We continued on through the displays, arranged by location. We started at the Strait of Karimata & Java Sea, then moved on to the Strait of Malacca & Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal & Laccadive Sea, and Ocean Journey before coming to the largest underwater viewing window in the world at Open Ocean. Heading back toward the entrance, we stopped at the Persian Gulf & Arabian Sea, Red Sea, East Africa, and South China Sea displays, ending our underwater journey walking though the tunnel at Shark Seas.
The Merlion: Now back above the ocean surface, we headed out on foot to our next destination, stopping by the Merlion but not going inside, instead making Sentosa 4D Adventureland our final attraction.
Sentosa 4D Adventureland: The first of the three shows featured here was based on the movie "Journey 2: The Mysterious Island", which we had both seen before and hence had no problem following the story line as we viewed the show, enhanced with 3D glasses, bubbles, mist, and puffs of air on the back of our calves. The second show was an Extreme Log Ride, where we sat in cars that moved up and down, tilting back and forth matching the action of the 3D log ride being displayed on the screen in front of us. Finally, we mounted galloping mechanical horses to shoot bad guys popping up on the screen with our pistols, all in 3D.
Night Safari: After our 4D experience, we left Sentosa Island by monorail before catching a cab ride to the Night Safari. Having been so impressed with the experience the first time we visited Singapore, we decided to return. We contacted Paap to see if he wanted to meet us there, but he declined. After entering the park, we went to see the "Creatures of the Night Show", which was unchanged since our last visit.
We next walked along all the available trails, something we had not had time to do on our last visit. We started out on the Wallaby Trail, which just opened in August 2012. We continued on to the East Lodge Trail, the Leopard Trail, the only trail we walked last last, and finished our walk on the Fishing Cat Trail. Now back near the entrance, we hopped on the Night Tram, which took us around the entire park, including some areas not found on the walking trails. The entire ride was narrated. Our exhaustive tour of the Night Safari complete, we sat down for some dinner before returning to the hotel via cab.
